3/15 – L. Ron’s Bday

Current Music: King Crimson – Man with an Open Heart

This is a bit of a delayed post but just to recap back a bit to something I haven’t posted on:

March 15th marked L. Ron Hubbard – founder of Scientology’s Birthday (although he is now dead). In Vancouver this was celebrated with a protest entitled Operation: Party Hard. It was an interesting day from an observers perspective – The protestors were pretty peaceful – basically a big bunch of kids who read their facts right and decided to make an appearance and spread information about the parts of Scientology that aren’t shared openly. You know, the kind of facts that are omitted when they are okay to take your entire life savings and then some.

The group known as Anonymous, who has taken up the use of the English Revolution Guy Fawkes masks to conceal their identities, were there in various forms and are orchestrating all such protests in multiple cities across the world. Their message, although a bit confused with all the internet jargon, is to expose Scientology for what it is (“A Cult” as the chants rang on) and to bring to light all the injustices done to members of the group. Another big tackle is how the Church of Scientology claims itself as an authentic religion and thus, gets tax free status, even though it operates as a business.

Also on March 15th in Vancouver, there was a ‘FREE TIBET’ rally, an ‘Anti-War’ rally and a ‘Stop the Seal Cull!’ rally. Supposedly, there was also a Furry Art Jam to which I choose to respond with “No Comment.”
